The sewer and storm lines at the
Fashion Center Mall in Salt Lake City, Utah, were a mess. The stores in the mall opened and closed and
leases were signed and broken due to the roller coaster of events that was the pandemic of
2020. The old Nordstrom building, in particular, had significant problems with the sewer
and storm lines backing up and not draining correctly.
Ground Penetrating Radar Systems (GPRS) was called out to perform a video pipe
inspection of the sewer line to diagnose the problems. Using CCTV, GPRS Project Manager,
Arthur J Formoso, responded from the Salt Lake City, Utah, location, with the help of Area Manager
Kyle Humphreys.
At the site, they began to inspect the integrity of all sewer and storm lines
ranging from 18-inch to 24-inch diameter lines. They lowered a robotic crawler camera down
the main line, recording a video of what they found. The rover-type sewer camera they used
can crawl up to 1,000 feet into a main line and perform video inspections.
During the inspection, they found gravel obstructions and some areas where the
pipe had completely collapsed. As a result of the video sewer inspection service, GPRS was
able to find, inspect, and provide NASSCO-certified documentation so the property owners
could make the necessary repairs for future mall tenants.
GPRS offers many different subsurface inspection services including manhole
inspections in Salt Lake City, Utah, cross bore locating in Salt Lake City, Utah, storm inspections in
Salt Lake City, Utah, sewer pipe locating in Salt Lake City, Utah, and sewer lateral video
inspections in Salt Lake City, Utah.
