One-Call Locating

Calling the state sponsored one-call (811) system before excavation, digging, boring or drilling is a critical step in the damage prevention process - it is the law. Last year, the direct cost of utility damages in the US was over $1.5 Billion. The root cause of these damages typically were caused by poor excavation practices, failing to call 811 and poor locating technique. These stats, according to the Common Ground Alliance, demonstrate the need to follow state protocols for damage prevention as well as hiring a qualified and reputable locating firm to perform these projects. To effectively execute one-call tickets, a locating contractor needs to meet 3 different criteria: First, staffing levels must be significant enough to meet the demand of dozens to even hundreds of locate requests per day. Second, a utility locating company must have a presence in multiple markets, regionally and nationally. This allows one company to perform locates for the same asset/client in multiple areas. Lastly, the utility locating firm must have an extensive training process to ensure that field personnel are trained in equipment and methodology – ensuring damage prevention.

GPRS meets these criteria. We have experience performing one call utility tickets for pipelines, communication lines, facilities, Oil & Gas, windfarms and even higher education campuses. Our subsurface scanning solutions are sure to assist your damage prevention concerns. One of the features that makes GPRS unique is our ability to craft one-call type service plans for facilities that are on private property. In these scenarios, the state-sponsored utility locating service is not able to assist as their scope is limited to underground facilities that lie within public property. Because Ground Penetrating Radar Systems is the industry-leader in private utility locating and skilled in public locates, taking on the underground locating duties for campuses on private property is a natural progression. Our mapping and deliverables department is able to create and update as-built utility drawings as a part of our service. If you desire to have a nationwide, fully staffed, and well trained team perform your public and/or private utility locating tickets, there is only one call to make – GPRS.
