GPRS 3D Laser Scans Hard Rock Stadium For Mixed Reality Super Bowl Feature

3D laser scanning captures real-world spaces with millimeter precision for clients to create engaging virtual reality experiences.
GPRS 3D laser scanned the Hard Rock Stadium for use in a mixed-reality experience during the 2020 Super Bowl on February 2. Mixed reality is a blend of physical and virtual worlds that includes both real and computer-generated objects. The two worlds are "mixed" together to create a realistic environment.

Case Study: TruePoint 3D Laser Scans Hard Rock Stadium For Mixed Reality Super Bowl Feature We would like to thank The Famous Group, the Miami Dolphins and the Hard Rock Stadium for allowing us to be a part of this project.” - Ryan Hacker, President of TruePoint Laser Scanning Location: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida Task: TruePoint 3D laser scanned the Hard Rock Stadium for use in a mixed-reality experience during the 2020 Super Bowl on February 2. Mixed reality is a blend of physical and virtual worlds that includes both real and computer-generated objects. The two worlds are "mixed" together to create a realistic environment. Challenge: It was important to the client that the existing spatial layout was captured with great accuracy. When generating the mixed reality experience, computer-generated objects must precisely interact with the physical environment to sell the realism. Solution: The upper and lower stands, field topography, LED display screens, LED ribbon around stadium, two Hard Rock Stadium signs and roof structure were documented with a survey-grade Leica P40 ScanStation. In two days onsite, 172 laser scans of precise point cloud data was captured. TruePoint’s team of in-house engineers quickly generated a 3D Revit model for the client. The client planned to use Autodesk Maya, a 3D computer animation, modeling and rendering software to create an augmented reality (AR) simulation. Deliverables: TruePoint delivered point cloud files in .rcs format, a 3D Revit Model, and a FBX file. The client was also able to view the model progress using Autodesk A360, a web-browser application that allows engineers and project teams to work together more easily in an online workspace. Added Value: “Everything we do at TruePoint Laser Scanning is highly custom. This client wanted portions of the stadium modeled in LOD 100 and portions modeled in LOD 300. Our deliverables were customized, so the client is only paying for what they need,” Aaron Hunt, Lead Technical Manager. 3D Laser Scanning a Historic Church for Restoration

To complete the restoration of the church, the client required accurate 2D CAD drawings with precise measurements of the structural and architectural elements.
Our client needed accurate as built documentation to complete a $1.2 million restoration and improvement project for a historic church. The 1875-built church in Glandorf, Ohio was the largest Roman Catholic church built at the time. Built in Neo-Gothic style, it contained a 225-foot spire, beautiful statues imported from Austria and stained-glass windows imported from Germany. In 2017, the church underwent a 3-month historic restoration and improvement project. The project involved preventive measures including fiber-glassing the interior walls, painting and installing updated storm windows to protect the stained glass. In addition, damaged sections of the archway and niches were repaired, and a ceiling was lowered in the vestibule to highlight a stained-glass window.
GPRS’ client needed accurate as-built documentation to complete a $1.2 million restoration and improvement project for a historic church.
Our client provides historic restoration services and is dedicated to providing excellence in conservation and restoration. To complete the restoration of the church, the client required accurate CAD drawings with precise measurements of the structural and architectural elements. With a Leica P40 laser scanner, GPRS quickly captured the structural and architectural details of the church’s interior with92 laser scans. 3D laser scanning captured full spatial and color data with high detail and precision. Laser scanning can capture extreme detail for even the most intricate buildings easily. 3D laser scanning delivered a valuable data set to the client. Intensity map point cloud files provided digital visualization. 2D CAD drawings were created from accurate scan data. From skyscrapers to sewer lines, GPRS Intelligently Visualizes The Built World® to keep your projects on time, on budget, and safe.

Using 3D Laser Scanning For Facility Design Modification

When plant engineers at a pet food packaging facility needed to make modifications, they asked GPRS 3D Laser Scanning to provide as built documentation and a 3D model to plan retrofits to the existing structure. The project site consisted of 140,000 sq. ft. of interior space. Approximately 100,000 sq. ft. of this was single-story warehouse space, consisting of a central palletizer, semi- truck loading bays and temporary material storage. The remaining 40,000 sq. ft. contained 7 levels of elevated platforms containing product packaging equipment. TruePoint captured all architectural and structural features, equipment, conduit and piping.

CASE STUDY LOCATION Bowling Green, Kentucky TASK: When plant engineers at a pet food packaging facility needed to make modifications, they asked TruePoint Laser Scanning to provide as built documentation and a 3D model to plan retrofits to the existing structure. The project site consisted of 140,000 sq. ft. of interior space. The remaining 40,000 sq. ft. contained 7 levels of elevated platforms containing product packaging equipment. TruePoint captured all architectural and structural features, equipment, conduit and piping. PROBLEM SOLUTION BENEFITS n By using laser scanning instead of traditional survey methods, TruePoint saved this client thousands of dollars in field survey work and drafting time, and provided greater detail than what would have otherwise been possible. With an accurate, comprehensive data set, plant engineers were able to complete virtual interference checks, avoiding design rework costs. n In two days on site, TruePoint’s experienced project managers 3D scanned the 140,000 sq. ft. area with millimeter accuracy. 523 scans were taken with the Leica P50 and RTC 360 laser scanners. This project was scanned on the weekend to avoid disruption to production. n After proper data registration, TruePoint’s in-house modeling team built an information-rich 3D BIM model for the client. TruePoint’s experienced team has optimized workflows for importing data, registration, creating deliverables, quality checks and transferring data to clients. n No as built plans existed for the facility. The plant was complex, capturing the existing spatial data of the conduit and piping in a high level of detail was important to the plant engineers. n There were silos and other pieces of large equipment that would be difficult to measure precisely using traditional or manual measuring techniques. /// GPRS LASER SCANNING SERVICES ///// 3D LASER SCANNING CASE STUDY: USING 3D LASER SCANNING FOR FACILITY DESIGN MODIFICATIONS “IT’S HARD FOR ME TO IMAGINE HOW THIS PET FOOD PACKAGING FACILITY COULD HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED WITHOUT 3D LASER SCANNING.” TRUEPOINT PROJECT MANAGER
