3D Laser Scan Corporate Office HVAC and Mechanical Systems

With 3D laser scan data, the client can accurately verify the existing HVAC and mechanical equipment within the building without having to worry about positioning or measurement error. This helps them to design their new systems more accurately and efficiently.‍
3D scanning services were performed for a 10-story office building, capturing existing above-ceiling interstitial HVAC systems on each floor, as well as mechanical rooms, chiller rooms, air handling unit rooms and a basement tunnel connecting the utility area to the office building. Over 240,000 square foot of space was laser scanned to document the as-is conditions. The client was upgrading the HVAC system and GPRS developed a 3D model to aid the design process and reduce clashes.
With the 3D laser scan data collected by GPRS, the client could accurately verify the existing HVAC and mechanical equipment within the building.
Location: Toledo, Ohio Task: 3D scanning services were performed for a 10-story office building, capturing existing above-ceiling interstitial HVAC systems on each floor, as well as mechanical rooms, chiller rooms, air handling unit rooms and a basement tunnel connecting the utility area to the office building. Over 240,000 square foot of space was laser scanned to document the as-is conditions. The client was upgrading the HVAC system and GPRS developed a 3D model to aid the design process and reduce clashes. Challenge: With the site being an active office building, it was critical that the required lidar scanning data was obtained with minimal interruptions. Accuracy was important and the space was vast, they needed complete documentation to plan for system upgrades, including above the acoustic tile that was to remain in place. Solutions: Using the RTC360 and P40 Leica 3D laser scanners, GPRS Project Managers 3D laser scanned the interstitial and mechanical space in the evenings to avoid interrupting the office workday. A laser scanner mounted to a tripod was extended above the ceiling tiles to capture the interstitial space. With the 3D laser scan data, the client can accurately verify the existing HVAC and mechanical equipment within the building without having to worry about positioning or measurement error. This enables them to design their new systems more accurately and efficiently. Deliverable: GPRS delivered point cloud data in .rcs file format usable in Autodesk products (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.) so the client can align and overlay the point cloud to their existing 3D Revit model to verify the location of large format ductwork located in the interstitial space. GPRS also provided a 3D model of the mechanical rooms, chiller rooms, air handling unit rooms and basement tunnel. An LOD 100 model of the structural space and an LOD 300 of the MEP space was delivered to the client. Added Value: GPRS customizes deliverables for each client, so they are only paying for what they need. Also, upon completion of the HVAC system upgrade and prior to ceiling tiles being installed, GPRS will re-mobilize to the site to capture the new as-built conditions of the space for future reference.

Laser Scanning Manufacturing Facility for Capital Improvement Project

A Revit model will expedite design changes and fabrication of equipment to increase production capacity at the manufacturing plant.
3D laser scan a manufacturing facility that is receiving upgrades to three of its lines to capture point cloud data and generate a 3D Revit Model.
A specialty compound manufacturer was upgrading three manufacturing lines at its plant as part of a larger capital improvement plan.
A specialty compound manufacturer was upgrading three manufacturing lines at its plant as part of a larger capital improvement plan. The facility was originally built in the 1980's and has expanded several times over the years.Multiple levels in the facility needed scanned at a very high level of detail, capturing structural, architectural, MEP and civil elements, along with a site plan. The following areas required 3D laser scanning services:On the ground production level, GPRS captured extruder areas for lines 1-3 and process equipment. On the mezzanine level, GPRS captured mixers for each extrusion line.On the second floor, GPRS captured blender areas for lines 1-3, process equipment, air handling equipment, and additional rooms.Outside, GPRS captured the tank farm and silo farm. GPRS provides 3D laser scanning services for facility upgrades and expansions, delivering 2-4mm accurate dimensions of building infrastructure: structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing features; furnaces, equipment, conduit and piping. With an accurate, comprehensive data set, plant engineers can install new equipment and upgrade the three manufacturing lines. The facility was 3D laser scanned on the weekend to minimize interruption to the manufacturing lines.73 scans were performed in one day with the Leica P40 ScanStation and the Leica RTC360 laser scanner, acquiring very high detail of the plant.Colorized point cloud, TruView Viewer files, and a Revit model were delivered to the client. 3D laser scanning and a Revit model will expedite design changes and fabrication of equipment to increase production capacity. The investment of laser scanning will reduce the project timeline, minimize downtime and change orders -- providing cost savings for the client. This client is pioneering innovation in its industry -- upgrading the lines with updated extruders will increase capacity for long-term growth while minimizing stoppages, set-up times, and scrap material.

GPRS 3D Laser Scans 30 Rockefeller Plaza to Support Lease Fit-Out Highlights THE BOTTOM LINE For the 54th floor at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, GPRS delivered CAD plans, a BIM model, and REBNY compliant measurements so the architecture and design firm can obtain precise measurement of rentable square footage, accelerate design planning, and execute a tenant buildout with confidence. Industry Commercial Office Service Reality Capture: 3D Laser Scanning, Photogrammetry, CAD, BIM, BOMA/REBNY Analysis Location New York, New York Deliverables Colorized point cloud, 2D CAD drawings, floor contours, 3D Revit model, BOMA/REBNY analysis, 3D virtual tour PROJECT APPLICATION Reality Capture Office Space for Lease Task An architecture and design firm required up-to-date existing conditions of 30 Rockefeller Plaza and comprehensive reality capture deliverables to customize and build out 33,000 sq. ft. on the 54th floor for a new global law firm tenant lease. PROBLEM Building management requires accurate, up-to-date documentation for all floor layouts. The architecture and design firm needed detailed as-built information to customize the layout, interior finishes, and MEP requirements to meet the new tenant’s high-end specifications. ‍ Solution A GPRS Project Manager captured the space using a commercial grade 3D laser scanner and photogrammetry, then delivered a complete reality capture package: Colorized point cloud 2D floor plans & reflected ceiling plans (RCPs) Floor contour deformation maps 3D Revit model REBNY compliant area analysis & BOMA calculations 3D virtual tour ‍ Benefits The firm received accurate 2D plans, a 3D BIM model, and a virtual tour to support renovations, layout adjustments, and system installations. Floor contour maps revealed the real “topography” of interior floor surfaces, delivering precise elevations for correct alignment. A color coded MEP model made it easy to differentiate systems, identify clashes before construction, and prevent costly change orders. The REBNY analysis ensured the space was measured according to New York City’s commercial real estate standards, giving the client accurate square footage for planning and leasing.
