GPRS’ team of in-house architects, engineers and CAD Technicians delivered point cloud files, a 3D model, and TruViews to the client. Challenge: The client was challenged with acquiring highly detailed architectural data including walls, ceilings, floors, stairs, balustrades, colonnades etc., and structural data including exposed columns and beams to design the renovation. Due to the size of the building and the ornate features, traditional methods would have taken months to complete and would not have been as accurate or anywhere near as detailed. Solutions: The GPRS scan technician completed 1,680 laser scans in 15 days (an average of over 100 scans per day!) with a Leica P20 ScanStation. A 3D Revit model with varying degrees of LOD 200 and LOD 300 modeling was generated by GPRS’ engineers based on the client’s instruction. Some areas of the building, such as the main lobby and exterior facades, required finer modeling detail over 350. This was deciphered through several project scope conferences between GPRS and the client. Deliverables: GPRS delivered point cloud files (.rcs file formats), a 3D Revit model and TruViews to the client. GPRS worked closely with the project architect to review the model in real time utilizing BIM360 software for shared viewing of the model in its current state throughout the 2-month project. Added Value: 3D laser scanning aids the process of architectural design from the early stages of site documentation and conceptualization, to monitoring construction progress and verifying as-built accuracy. Aside from the benefits of quickly and accurately creating detailed as-built drawings of a site, the data acquired through laser scanning has continued value throughout the project's life. 3D Laser Scanning a Historic Church for Restoration

To complete the restoration of the church, the client required accurate 2D CAD drawings with precise measurements of the structural and architectural elements.
Our client needed accurate as built documentation to complete a $1.2 million restoration and improvement project for a historic church. The 1875-built church in Glandorf, Ohio was the largest Roman Catholic church built at the time. Built in Neo-Gothic style, it contained a 225-foot spire, beautiful statues imported from Austria and stained-glass windows imported from Germany. In 2017, the church underwent a 3-month historic restoration and improvement project. The project involved preventive measures including fiber-glassing the interior walls, painting and installing updated storm windows to protect the stained glass. In addition, damaged sections of the archway and niches were repaired, and a ceiling was lowered in the vestibule to highlight a stained-glass window.

292 individual interior and exterior LiDAR scans were completed in a single day, capturing existing conditions including all historical features, all without disrupting the historic site's operations or impacting its valuable contents so that a renovation could be designed and planned without requiring time consuming hand-measurements.
