Mixed reality is a blend of physical and virtual worlds that includes both real and computer-generated objects. The two worlds are "mixed" together to create a realistic environment. Challenge: It was important to the client that the existing spatial layout was captured with great accuracy. When generating the mixed reality experience, computer-generated objects must precisely interact with the physical environment to sell the realism. Solution: The upper and lower stands, field topography, LED display screens, LED ribbon around stadium, two Hard Rock Stadium signs and roof structure were documented with a survey-grade Leica P40 ScanStation. In two days onsite, 172 laser scans of precise point cloud data was captured. TruePoint’s team of in-house engineers quickly generated a 3D Revit model for the client. The client planned to use Autodesk Maya, a 3D computer animation, modeling and rendering software to create an augmented reality (AR) simulation. Deliverables: TruePoint delivered point cloud files in .rcs format, a 3D Revit Model, and a FBX file. The client was also able to view the model progress using Autodesk A360, a web-browser application that allows engineers and project teams to work together more easily in an online workspace. The client was making a large investment in capital and equipment and needed reliable as-built data and a 3D BIM model to expedite the installation without rework.
A pet nutrition manufacturer was expanding its facility to increase the production of current products and add an additional packaging line. The 30-year-old company planned to invest $17.5 million in this expansion. GPRS conducted an as-built site survey and created a 3D BIM model for the facility expansion. We captured approximately 50,000 square feet of the dry mixing facility spanning 5 levels, including a meat slurry room, a batching area, an extruder room, a hammermill room, and several mechanical and electrical rooms. Precise point cloud data was captured for all architectural and structural features, equipment, conduit, and piping.

TruePoint captured precise point cloud data of all architectural and structural features, equipment, conduit and piping. Challenge: No as built plans existed for the facility. The plant was complex, capturing the existing spatial data of the machinery, conduit and piping in a high level of detail was important to the plant engineers. There were many silos and machinery that needed to be worked around and could obstruct the view. The client was making a large investment in capital and equipment and needed reliable data to expedite the installation without rework. Solution: In two days on site, TruePoint’s experienced project managers 3D laser scanned the manufacturing facility with the Leica P50, Leica P40 and RTC 360 laser scanners. TruePoint’s in-house modeling team built an information-rich 3D BIM model for the client. Deliverable: The deliverables created for this project included an intensity map Autodesk Recap point cloud (.rcs file), LGS/JetStream Viewer files and a Revit 2019 LOD 300 3D model. The information-rich 3D model included: Basic structural elements including exposed columns, beams and structural bracing. Basic architectural elements including walls, doors, windows, floors and ceilings. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing piping 2" in diameter and above, showing valves on all pipes that were 2" and larger. Conduit runs were modeled as solid blocks. MEP Equipment including pumps, electrical boxes, silos and HVAC ductwork. Added Value: TruePoint 3D laser scanned another facility for this client earlier this year. We were contacted to provide accurate site data to plan for this facility expansion. By using laser scanning instead of traditional survey methods, TruePoint saved this client thousands of dollars in field survey work and drafting time, and provided greater detail than what would have otherwise been possible. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport – DFW Airport, Texas Prefabrication of Canopies for Parking Lot Structures ‍ TASK: GPRS provided 3D laser scanning services for six parking lot structures at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, ranging from 500 to 2,500 square feet in plan area. The client wanted accurate dimensional information to prefabricate replacement canopies for each of the structures. ‍ CHALLENGE: The client needed accurate information to design replacement fabric panels, including the location of the attachment plates and fasteners. They requested a quick turnaround on this project, GPRS expedited deliverables within 15 working days of the purchase order. ‍ SOLUTION: Dimensions were quickly verified in these high traffic areas of the airport with a Leica laser scanner. GPRS’ Mapping & Modeling Team created an LOD 200 Revit 3D model including basic structural elements, such as exposed structural columns and joists, grade and canopy. With the 3D model, the following details could be used to expedite prefabrication and installation - elevations, plan dimensions, radii of rolled elements, plus locations and dimensions of all attachment hardware.
