///FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONs
GPRS’ core services that are used to capture the data we deliver include:
- Utility Locating: GPRS offers private utility locating services using ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic locators, and mapping using Real-Time Kinematic Positioning (RTK). GPRS Project Managers locate depth and horizontal position of subsurface utilities and provide on site field markings with spray paint and pin flags, plus complimentary plus GPS-enabled utility maps in .KMZ, .SHP, and .PDF formats upon project completion to give your team a clear understanding of the exact location, depth, and layout of all underground utilities on your job site.
- Concrete Scanning: Using GPR technology, GPRS performs concrete scanning to identify the location of rebar, conduit, and post tension cables, assess thickness, and detect potential voids within concrete slabs so you can cut, core, and drill with confidence. We guarantee our Project Manager’s concrete scanning accuracy through the “Green Box Guarantee”, where any green boxed area placed on concrete is verified clear of obstructions.
- CCTV Video Pipe Inspection: GPRS deploys robotic crawler CCTV cameras and lateral launch cameras to assess pipe conditions, document cross bores and defects, and map wastewater, sanitary, and storm sewer infrastructure. Inspection reports follow the NASSCO standard and are produced using WinCan video pipeline inspection software, providing clients with PACP-coded defect location maps and severity ratings. We help you quickly understand system conditions and make informed decisions before repairs, avoiding costly and disruptive digging.
- 3D Laser Scanning: GPRS provides 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, and BOMA measurement services using state-of-the-art equipment, technology, and processes. Deliverables include point clouds, 2D CAD drawings, 3D BIM models (including Revit), 3D mesh models, TruViews, 3D virtual tours, floor contours, reflected ceiling plans, BOMA lease plans and area analysis, and more with an accuracy of 2–6 millimeters.
- Leak Detection: GPRS offers acoustic leak detection services for municipal, industrial, and commercial water infrastructure. Services include subsurface leak detection, water main leak detection, water loss surveys, emergency leak detection, fire suppression system checks, and valve exercising. Acoustic detection is paired with leak correlation technology for real-time verification and can be integrated with VPI services and utility locating services.
GPRS’s CAD and BIM Team aggregates field data into georeferenced deliverables customized to the project scope, including point clouds, 2D CAD drawings, 3D BIM models, 3D mesh models, utility site plans, floor plans, sections, elevations, BOMA analysis, RCPs, 3D virtual tours, and more. Data is provided in .PDF, .SHP, .KMZ, .DWG, .DXF, .DGN, .SVG, .PTG, .E57, .RVT, .RCP, .RCS, .FBX, .STL, .OBJ, .PLY, .MP4 and formats for use in planning, design, and construction phases.
Reality capture is the process of digitally documenting existing conditions using technologies like LiDAR and photogrammetry. It produces accurate point clouds and 3D models that serve as the foundation for BIM, digital twins, and construction planning. GPRS uses survey-grade equipment to ensure precision.
BIM stands for Building Information Modeling and is more than just a 3D model. 3D BIM scanning gives engineers the ability to manage the building data throughout its whole life-cycle. It provides accurate spatial relationships and manufacturer details, as well as geographic information and other pertinent aspects of the building.
GPRS performs high-resolution 3D laser scanning and integrates the site data into a BIM or GIS platform. From there, clients can add additional layers, such as IoT sensor data, asset metadata, and operational workflows, to create a functional, interactive digital twin of their facility.
A BIM model is a detailed, static, digital model used mainly for design and construction, while a digital twin adds live data to show how an asset performs over time. BIM is most valuable during planning and building, and digital twins are most valuable during operations and maintenance. GPRS delivers 3D BIM models, which can serve as the building blocks to your digital twins. Learn more about the difference between 3D BIM models and digital twins.
Our Project Managers flag and paint our findings directly on the surface. This method of communication is the most accurate form of marking when excavation is expected to commence within a few days of service. GPRS also uses a global positioning system (GPS) to collect data points of findings. We use this data to generate a plan, KMZ file, satellite overlay, or CAD file to permanently preserve results for future use. GPRS does not provide land surveying services. All data is delivered through SiteMap®, GPRS’ secure, cloud‑based GIS platform and mobile app, providing easy access to 99.8% accurate utility locates and a full suite of digital deliverables:
- Job Summary Report
- Layered, interactive utility maps
- PDF and .KMZ formats
- Point clouds captured via LiDAR laser scanners
- 2D CAD drawings
- 3D BIM models and CSM models
- 3D Virtual Tours
Before the GPRS Reality Capture Team issues a project proposal, our consultative sales team will confirm whether your deliverables need to be developed within a specific Revit template. The GPRS Mapping & Modeling Team can work within client-provided templates. This ensures that your project can proceed immediately upon delivery of the 3D BIM model. Make sure we receive your Revit template before modeling begins.
SiteMap® is a proprietary GIS-based software platform developed and operated by GPRS. First introduced in 2021 and formally launched in 2023, SiteMap® serves as a project and facility management application that aggregates field-verified subsurface and aboveground infrastructure data into a single secure, shareable environment accessible 24/7 via computer, tablet, or smartphone mobile app.
SiteMap deliverables include digital utility maps, point clouds, CAD drawings, BIM models, NASSCO-certified inspection reports, and more. All GPRS utility locating customers receive complimentary SiteMap® Personal access upon project completion. Commercial access tiers – SiteMap® Project, Pro, and Team – offer expanded features for project-scale and enterprise-level data management, portfolio oversight, and multi-user collaboration.
