Intelligently Visualizing the Built World for Rudolph Libbe Hospital Addition

GPRS saved the GC untold labor hours and cost overruns by detecting clashes, finding deviations before they caused expensive rework, and discovering the buried slab.
Complete subsurface mapping and millimeter-accurate aboveground measurements for a top-down, 360° visualization of a hospital wing and parking area to support a hospital expansion.
The addition is designed to occupy an existing parking lot for hospital employees, patients, and visitors. GPRS performed utility locating, video pipe inspection, and 3D laser scanning to create a comprehensive map and 3D model of the medical center’s infrastructure, both above and below ground.
TASK: Complete subsurface mapping and millimeter-accurate aboveground measurements for a top-down, 360° visualization of a hospital wing and parking area to support a hospital expansion. PROJECT APPLICATION: Rudolph Libbe, a longtime GPRS client and partner, oversaw the construction on the expansion of a northwest Ohio medical center. The addition is designed to occupy an existing parking lot for hospital employees, patients, and visitors. GPRS performed utility locating, video pipe inspection, and 3D laser scanning to create a comprehensive map and 3D model of the medical center’s infrastructure, both above and below ground. PROBLEM SOLUTION BENEFITS n Rudolph Libbe received millimeteraccurate laser scan data and an integrated 3D BIM model to precisely design and plan the building addition during preconstruction. n Non-destructive utility-locate methods reduced the number of unknown utilities and obstructions for the design and construction teams. n GPRS’ as builts allowed Rudolph Libbe to plan the new foundation and identify areas where further investigation would be warranted to prevent design and utility clashes. n With comprehensive field services provided by GPRS, Rudolph Libbe saved time and money on change orders, and eliminated subsurface damage during the construction process. With parts of the medical center’s campus dating back to the mid- 1800s, inaccurate as built data and unknown subsurface obstructions could jeopardize construction planning. n It was imperative that the proposed locations of the structural foundation and planned utilities coordinated with the existing conditions. n Rudolph Libbe desired 3D as builts to plan and complete the building addition, such as structural and utility tie-in information. n Traditional exploration methods typically include “soft” excavation methods over the entire building footprint. This option is expensive, time consuming, and requires tremendous coordination. GPRS utilized ground penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic (EM) locating to map the hospital’s utilities. n Video pipe inspection (VPI) recorded the precise location and condition of the facility’s sewer lines, detailed in a NASSCO-certified report. n 3D laser scanning documented as built site data and utility maps to create 2D CAD drawings and a 3D BIM model for virtual design and construction. n GPRS participated in coordination meetings with construction and design team members. NO ONE HAS GONE TO THIS EXTENT TO MAP A SITE ABOVE AND BELOW GROUND. IT WAS IMPERATIVE THAT RUDOLPH LIBBE HAD ACCURATE AS BUILT SITE DATA AND UTILITY MAPS WITH CRITICAL STRUCTURAL AND UTILITY TIE-IN INFORMATION.” JAIME ALTHAUSER | FIELD SUPPORT DIRECTOR, GPRS

Historic Cathedral Needs 3D Laser Scanning of Front Façade

With 3D laser scanning, the client avoided the costs of renting a lift, manually measuring the façade, and the potential of inaccurate and incomplete data.
This client needed to do some rehabilitation on a historic cathedral in Denver, Colorado. After experiencing 100 years of weather in Denver, the cathedral had damage to the exterior stonework. GPRS laser scanned the exterior front façade of the historic cathedral and provided the client with 2D drawings.
GPRS worked quickly to define the scope of work, document a proposal, provide 3D laser scanning services and deliver a 2D drawing for this project.
Case Study: Historic Cathedral Needs 3D Laser Scanning Of Front Façade Location: Denver, Colorado Task: This client needed to do some rehabilitation on a historic cathedral in Denver, Colorado. After experiencing 100 years of weather in Denver, the cathedral had damage to the exterior stonework. GPRS laser scanned the exterior front façade of the historic cathedral and provided the client with 2D drawings. Problem: Prior to beginning work, the client needed accurate drawings to document the locations of stonework that needed maintenance. The client was pressed for time and needed an immediate turnaround for 3D laser scanning services and a 2D drawing. They also had a minimal budget for this project. Solution: GPRS worked quickly to define the scope of work, document a proposal, provide 3D laser scanning services and deliver a 2D drawing for this project. The Project Manager was able to scan the exterior façade within a few hours. GPRS quickly captured the entire front facade from the ground without the need for a lift. The Leica C10 laser scanner was used, whose range exceeds 900 feet and possesses accuracy that is sub-centimeter, making 3D laser scanning a perfect option. GPRS supplied the client with 2D elevations of the plotted point cloud so they could document the exterior stone damage while on site. Benefits: The client avoided the costs of renting a lift, manually measuring the facade and the potential of inaccurate or incomplete data. GPRS offers an extensive team of laser scanning professionals, including Engineers and Architects, to provide a deliverable that is accurate, cost-efficient and timely. If you are in the Denver area and are in need of as-builts, construction verification, or architectural documentation call GPRS for a quote! Utility Locating & Laser Scanning Aid Design Renovations for Florida State University

A comprehensive site scan, delivering utility maps and a 3D BIM model allowed the architect to plan precise renovations to the stadium’s layout, from design changes and material selection, to cost estimation and construction phasing, with ease.
GPRS provided above and below-ground as-built data to Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium, including subsurface utility maps, and an architectural/structural 3D BIM model that the client could access via our SiteMap GIS Platform. A $255-million-dollar renovation project required accurate data to update the stadium seating with founder’s boxes and a field level club.
GPRS provided above and below-ground as-built data to Florida State University for a $255-million-dollar renovation project to update Doak Campbell Stadium, including subsurface utility maps, plus an architectural and structural 3D BIM model that the customer could access via our SiteMap GIS Platform.
BIM Model Aids Design Renovations for Stadium A BIM model provided the stadium owners a better understanding of the design updates. Tallahassee, Florida Task: An architect requested an ArchiCAD BIM model of a college football stadium to create renovation construction documents. Problem: A vast amount of space required as-built documentation, over 600,000 sq. ft. needed 3D laser scanned and modeled. The renovation changes were complex. A BIM model was needed to provide the stadium owners a better understanding of the architecture and design updates. Our client needed a single source of data, where all architects on the team could see the latest design and document their changes. Solution: The exterior and interior of the stadium were 3D laser scanned with 2-4 millimeter precision, including three concourse levels, stadium seating, and suites. TruePoint delivered an intensity map point cloud, TruView viewer files, and a Revit 2021 3D model of the stadium. Working from precise details in the 3D model, renovations can be designed right the first time, saving time and costly change orders. Benefits: The architect utilizes the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process to provide their clients a better understanding of the complexities of architecture and design. Technical construction drawings (floor plan views, elevation views, cross-sections, iso-metric representations, etc.) can be effortlessly created from the 3D BIM model and shared with all disciplines. A BIM model allows architects to plan precise renovations, from design changes and material selection, to cost estimation and construction phasing.
