To ensure the overall timely success of you project, utility detection is critical to any construction project where a subsurface excavation is planned. If this critical first step is ignored, the risk for injury increases, budget overruns can multiply and your schedule can be delayed.
Video Pipe Inspection (CCTV) is a service used to inspect underground water sewer and lateral pipelines, VPI is a great tool for investigating cross-bores, structural faults and damages, and lateral line inspection.
With new build construction and renovation project, the likelihood of needing to cut or core concrete is high. There is an inherent risk of striking rebar, conduits, and post tension cables during the cutting or coring process. If a strict occurs, repair costs begin to add up, delays creep into your schedule and it creates a safety hazard for your employees.
The goal of the GPRS Deliverables Department is to deliver clear and understandable findings with each of our outputs from field markings to field sketches, KMZ files, or CAD drawings that provide 2D site plans or even 3D CAD models. In addition, upon the completion of every project, our customers receive a job summary that includes job scope information, site photos, description of site conditions, equipment used, and notes from the project.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was recently called to locate piles beneath a concrete slab on grade at NASA in Hampton, Virginia. Scope of work was to scan a 30’ x 30’ area in the basement of a building to locate and map out underground piles so the engineers on site could core drill and test the composition and structure of the existing piles. They were not sure if the piles were concrete or possibly made of a wood material. There were several piles that were said to be in the area according to old drawings from the building. We also were asked to map out the rebar in the slab so they could get a clean core sample when they went to drill by the piles. Ground Penetrating Radar is an effective and efficient way of locating material in a concrete slab and underground. It also allows us to provide a depth to how deep the material is.
A concrete construction contractor was given the task of designing and installing massive light fixtures on the roof of the new state of the art addition to the Capital One Corporate campus in Tysons, VA. The massive light pole fixtures have base plates that are required to be anchored into the existing concrete roof slab in very precise locations along the roof. The locations on the roof’s concrete slab where the structures were set to be placed contained reinforcement steel (rebar) and post tension cables that could not be struck under any circumstances when drilling and/or anchoring into the slab. Precise measures needed to be taken in order for the contractor to locate the rebar and post tension cables within the slab; they needed to GPR scan / x-ray each precise anchor location. Ground penetrating radar, or GPR, is a form of non-destructive testing which allows GPRS, Inc. to detect subsurface anomalies within the concrete slab.
GPRS will get requests for video pipe inspection to assess different pipes and is instrumental in inspecting sewer service laterals. The one screen picture in picture will give you all the information you need for mainline and lateral viewing. If you would like to learn more about the value of video pipe inspection please take a look at a recent video case study.
