Tracking underground utilities is impossible without accurate and thorough documentation. While public utility locations are typically available upon request, private utilities remain unknown unless a private locator is called. GPRS locates utilities, marks their location, and collects GPS coordinates on those utilities. We provide complimentary high-resolution maps in the form of PDF, KMZ, and SHP files with every outdoor utility locating project we perform. These maps are vital for keeping an accurate record of utilities’ locations for future construction work.

UTILITY LOCATING Maps & models

Outdoor Field Marking & GPS Mapping (Standard)

In addition to on-site communications from our Project Managers, our clients receive field markings in the form of paint, pin flags, stakes, or any other method they request. We train our Project Managers to ensure that all the field markings they apply are clear and easy to understand. Additionally, each GPRS Project Manager creates a GPS Mapping sketch and produces our automated maps and models for outdoor utility locates.

Deliverable: Field Markings and a submittal letter with links to download printable PDF map, KMZ, and SHP files.

Outdoor Utility CAD

The GPRS Mapping & Modeling Team can create CAD files documenting our outdoor utility locating results. This service allows contractors, engineers, and owners to develop or update as-built drawings. Clients use these files for preplanning, to avoid utilities, or to document the history of their site on various CAD and GIS systems.

Deliverable: DWG and/or DGN CAD files, background image JPEG files, and a PDF plan print out of the CAD sheets.

Drone Imagery CAD Add-On

GPRS has access to a drone pilot network that provides aerial imagery for your project site as an additional service across the country. Our drones allow us to create high-quality aerial images showing GPRS paint and markers on the ground and the on-site conditions at the time of flight. The drones can fly in and record immediately after we finish marking the field.

Deliverable: DWG and/or DGN CAD files, drone background image geo TIF file, an obj mech file, an XYZ point cloud, and a PDF plan print out of the CAD sheets.

Indoor Utility Markings

Indoor utility locating often takes place in spaces that require impermanent marking solutions like chalk or painters tape where paint, sharpie, and other permanent marking are not desired. Our Project Managers are trained to make all their field markings clear, accurate, and understandable for anyone who may view them.

Deliverable: Field surface markings and photos as requested.

3D Model Virtual Tour

GPRS can implement 3D Cameras or 3D Laser Scanners at your site to document all the interior findings. GPRS uses these cameras to create a floor plan of your site with our results added as linework, or to create 3D views and point clouds. Our 3D virtual tour utility lets your team tour the location, add digital notes, and even measure inside the point cloud viewer.

Deliverable: 90 day access to the virtual tour site (this access can be extended as needed).

2D or 3D CAD

The Mapping and Modeling Team can take the 3D virtual tour data and develop a 2D tracing of the utility markings identified. GPRS Project Managers add relevant notes and can even overlay the clients' drawings if available. If there aren't existing plans, we can create a floor plan using the exports available.  Further development of the data into 3D models of the project can be created per the client’s specification for additional fees.

Deliverable: RVT, STEP, DWG and/or DGN CADFiles, background image JPEG files of floor or ceiling, PDF plan print out of the CAD sheets, a 3D point cloud, and / OR 3D mesh files.

Nassco report

In addition to the on-site communication received from our Project Managers, our clients receive filed markings in the form of paint, pin flags, stakes or any other method as directed by the client. Our PMs are trained to make all of their field markings to be clear, accurate and understandable for anyone who may view them.

wincan video

The Deliverables Department is able to create a CAD file that documents our results. This allows clients such as contractors, engineers, and owners to create or update as-built drawings for preplanning, utility avoidance, or to document site history and site changes and can be exported to a variety of CAD and GIS systems.

GPS Maps & Overlays

Our PMs are able to take the results of their scan and place them into a sketch. This level of communication is a way to quickly and visually convey the results of the subsurface investigation beyond temporary paint markings or pin flags.

Manhole Inspection Report

The nest level of reporting available involves an aerial satellite image overlay. These mapped findings are provided to the client in a KMZ file format as well as a PDF showing our findings over an aerial image along with our notes and depths.

CONCRETE SCANNING Maps & Models

Concrete Markings

Concrete-embedded objects are visually marked on the surface of the concrete by our Project Managers. The Project Manager will indicate the locations using a marker to highlight the areas that have an obstruction nearby. Project Managers can even note the depth of the reinforcement or conduit if requested.

Deliverable: Concrete surface markings.

Hand Sketch to 2D or 3D CAD

The GPRS Mapping & Modeling Team can translate field markings into a permanent digital record of our findings. Our CAD files document the vertical and horizontal positions of reinforcements. We can even overlay the existing floor plan with our data. This information management ensures that scan results are well-documented and can be utilized long after the concrete scan is complete.

Deliverable: DWG and/or DGN CAD files, background image JPEG files, and a PDF plan print out of the CAD sheets.

3D Model Virtual Tour

GPRS utilizes 3D cameras or 3D Laser Scanners to document our interior findings. The 3D structure produced is a virtual tour that will allow your team to tour the site almost as if you were there yourself. This enables our clients to add digital notes and even make measurements. The 3D utility also has options to export a floor plan, a floor and ceiling composite image, a point cloud, and a mesh file of the areas captured with the 3D camera for an additional fee.

Deliverable: 90-day access to the virtual tour site (this access can be extended as needed).

3D or 2D CAD

The Mapping and Modeling Team can take the 3D virtual tour or point cloud and develop a 2D tracing of the concrete markings identified in the digital rendering. We add notes and can even overlay the clients' drawings if available. If current plans do not exist, a floor plan will be created using the exports available in the virtual tour processing system we utilize, that is also included in this CAD service offering. Further development of the data into 3D models of the project can be created from laser scan data per the client’s specification for additional fees.

Deliverable: RVT, STEP, DWG and/or DGN CAD Files, background image JPEG files of floor or ceiling, PDF plan print out of the CAD sheets, a 3D point cloud, and 3D mesh files.

GPRS 3D Laser Scanning
Maps & Models

If site markings are not required, we can provide you with 3D laser scan data to capture as-built conditions for documentation purposes.
Point Cloud Data Digital version of Building.

Point Cloud Data (Raw Data)

A point cloud is the set of 3D data points captured by the laser scanner. They contain the X, Y, and Z coordinates of every visible detail of a project site. These include objects like doors, windows, walls, MEP equipment, ductwork, and steel structures, to name a few. You can import the point cloud into CAD software to visualize the area. The data will look like a pixelated, digital version of your site. Once imported, point cloud data can be parsed, manipulated, and modified to suit a user’s needs.

Deliverable: PTG point cloud files and Autodesk Recap files in .RCS and .RCP format.
TruView Three Dimensional Photographs of Factory

TruViews

TruView is software designed for easy and intuitive sharing of point clouds, design models, mark-ups, and more. TruViews are three-dimensional photographs overlaid on top of the point cloud data. Since the TruViews are overlaid on the scan data, clients are able to take basic dimensions directly from the photograph for estimating clearances, distances, etc. TruViews are useful for those who have not travelled to the site and for those who have been to the site but need to recall specific details of a particular area.

Deliverable: TruView portable software allows you to open and view the LGS format of the point cloud published by GPRS, as well as overlay IFC (3D Model) files. TruView was previously referred to as JetStream.
Virtual Tour From Point Cloud

3D Virtual Tour From Point Cloud

A 3D virtual tour is a collection of 360° panoramic rotating images “stitched” together to form a full, 360° view of a location. Our 3D virtual tour utility lets your team tour the location, add digital notes, and even measure inside the virtual tour. The virtual tour can be viewed through desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.

Deliverable: A customizable MP4 vide file format flythrough or point cloud flythrough from Recap.
2D CAD Drawings

2D CAD Drawings

Point cloud data is imported into AutoCAD software to create 2D CAD drawings. Floor plans, sections and elevations are used for construction planning and building modifications.

Deliverable: 2D sheets in .RVT, .DWG or DGN formats

BIM Modeling

3D BIM Models

The GPRS TruePoint team has mastered the technology of converting point clouds into 3D BIM models to aid the planning and design needs of any project. A 3D BIM model provides a geometrically accurate model of a building or site, capturing spatial relationships, infrastructure, and manufacturer details, as well as geographic information and other pertinent aspects of the site. 3D BIM models provide users with the ability to break down building parts and see how they fit into a single finalized structure. Users can isolate walls, columns, windows, doors, etc., and alter the design. 3D BIM models are revolutionizing the way projects are delivered across industries – adding intelligence and efficiency to project execution – and connecting teams, data, and workflows at every stage of the project for better outcomes.

Deliverable: 3D BIM Model in various software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Microstation, Solidworks, Navisworks.

3D Mesh of Factory

3D Mesh

A 3D mesh in .FBX, .STL, .OBJ, and .PLY file formats can be created from a point cloud. TruePoint’s team of CAD technicians use the data set of x-y-z coordinates to generate a triangulated mesh from the 3D points. Meshes are volumetrically accurate, high-density, and high-resolution. Meshes allow clients to view the object’s geometry inside a CAD environment without having to navigate a point cloud. Files are delivered in a compact, easy-to-use format. Meshes can be used for repairing or restoring scanned elements with fine, organic details such as monuments and statues that are otherwise difficult to reproduce in CAD. Mesh files of stadiums and arenas have been used to develop mixed reality experiences during sporting events.

Deliverable: 3D mesh in .FBX, .STL, .OBJ, and .PLY file formats
