PROJECT APPLICATION
ASK
Task
Provide up-to-date, accurate utility maps and locations of water and sewer lines for a full fiber build-out in High Springs, Florida
PROBLEM
- Grid Source was contracted by Cox Communications to complete a full fiber build-out in the city of High Springs, Florida
- The city was struggling to locate all their utilities in a timely manner, creating a bottleneck that stalled fiber line installations
- A lack of accurate, up-to-date as-builts further complicated the project, leading to a very high rate of utility strikes, including a water main that drained the city’s water tower
- Multiple directional drilling crews were left on standby, waiting for the go-ahead to drill
Solution
- Bring in GPRS to locate the city’s water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer lines
- All city-owned utilities were located and uploaded to SiteMap
- The project was able to proceed with accurate utility information
Benefits
- Instant reduction/elimination of utility strikes thanks to accurate subsurface data
- All crews were taken off standby and were able to continue to install rapidly
- Additional crews were brought in to complete the build-out more quickly thanks to GPRS’ accurate underground utility information
- SiteMap allows the contractor and Cox to have accurate information for future installs in the area
