GPRS is proud to sponsor Construction Safety Week. This year is the second in the five-year CSW plan “All In Together.” Register for your free CSW presentation here.
Construction remains one of the most dangerous U.S. industries. The “Focus Four,” also called the Fatal Four from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), make up most of the reported incidents on job sites:
- Falls
- Struck-by
- Caught-in/Between
- Electrocutions
Many add a fifth “fatal focus,” Silicosis, to this list, as well.
In the 2020s, falls have accounted for 35-37% of construction fatalities, struck-by accidents – meaning a worker was struck by a moving vehicle, heavy equipment, or falling objects – caused between 8% and 17% of deaths, electrocution by coming into direct contact with a live wire caused approximately 8% of fatal accidents, and caught-in/between machinery, equipment, collapsing structures, or materials make up 1-6% of all the work-related deaths.
The Center for Construction Research and Training, also known as CPWR, a nonprofit whose mission is to reduce occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in construction, released statistics dating from 2011 through 2023 that show a continuing and alarming trend – a steady upward march in fatal construction injuries.

This data, as shared by Statista, among other data aggregators, finds that falls, slips, and trips far outpace other fatal incidents, with transportation accidents, fatal environmental substance exposure, and a combination of struck-by and caught-in/between accidents following.
The annual average numbers are stark:
- Falls, slips, and trips accounted for 364 serious injuries and deaths
- Transport accidents accounted for 259 serious injuries and deaths
- Environmental/Hazardous Material exposure accounted for 154 serious injuries and deaths
- Struck-by/Caught-in/Between incidents accounted for 148 serious injuries and deaths
- Personal violence accounted for 48 serious injuries and deaths
- Fires and explosions accounted for 13 serious injuries and deaths
That’s an average of 986 construction workers per year who don’t make it home safe at the end of their workday. 986 families whose fathers, brothers, sons, husbands, sisters, wives, daughters, and mothers are impacted by construction workplace safety.
At GPRS, we want everyone to make it home safe to their loved ones at the end of the day, every day. That’s why we are proud to sponsor Construction Safety Week.
This year, just like we have every year since 2019, GPRS safety professionals will fan out across the U.S. to give free, personalized CSW programs at job sites, in trailers, and in construction and subcontractor offices. No group is too big or small for our team to educate about the importance of a personal safety plan and how to stay aware of the hazards we deal with daily.
CSW’s theme this year is Recognize, Respond, Respect – part of its five-year push for greater awareness and safety across all contractors and trades – All In Together, A Five-Year Vision to Transform Safety.
- Recognize the presence and impact of High Energy/High Hazards/STCKY Activities
- Respond by putting direct controls in place
- Respect every hazard, every person, every life and every role in safety
GPRS is proud to help lead the charge for jobsite safety.
