For this job, GPRS was called out to a site to conduct CCTV video pipe inspections on a storm system to determine the condition of the underground pipes and make sure the sewer lines were in proper working order. To begin the investigation, the robotic crawler was inserted into the storm lines to run down the pipes so our Project Manager could get a clear look at the integrity of the pipes and determine if there were any problems with flow or any obstructions blocking the lines.
During the CCTV inspection, GPRS Project Manager, Chris Rentz, came across multiple concerns within the sewer system. Of these concerns, the first one was heavy buildup of mud within the sewer lines that was clogging up the pipe and would continue to build up until it cracked or punctured the interior metal of the pipeline. An additional concern was a separated and bent joint in the top of the pipe that had signs of dirt and rocks, which could fall into the line causing backup issues along with a sink hole above ground. The final concern located was a 4x4 piece of wood that was driven straight through the pipe from top to bottom, eventually causing flow restriction and buildup.
By using the sonde in the robotic camera head to locate the bent joint and the 4x4 piece of wood GPRS was able to pinpoint the exact areas of concern so the customer could excavate the problem locations and fix them before they got any worse.
