A military base in Virginia Beach,Virginia reached out to GPRS (Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, INC.) to have their storm system inspected.Due to the storm pipelines being underneath a runway it was imperative that GPRS be able to get in to the sewer lines quickly and do a thorough report of any and all issues found.
This project was a bit different due to the intricacies of getting onto the site and accessing the area we would be working in. GPRS did a preliminary site walk to ensure that access points were correct and to make sure there would be no issues once inspection day came. Communication with our clients is one of GPRS’s top priorities so keeping them informed before, during, and after inspection is always at the top of our list. The pressure was high on this project as both the military and our contractor were over our shoulder watching the video camera inspection from beginning to end. While this may phase other companies, GPRS welcomes any opportunity to show off our abilities.
Inspection takes place from one access point to the other and they are usually preferred to move downstream. All features inside the sewer line from one manhole to the other is marked on the official NASSCO grading scale. This allows for fully comprehensive and consistent inspections across all projects in every one of our markets. Having this inspection done will now save our client time and money as they know which underground pipelines can be saved or will need to be repaired or replaced. With this project GPRS was able to show the client that they had multiple issues inside most of their sewer system that would need to be corrected to keep the site area safe from future collapses or sinkholes. As you can see in the picture below, if you are inspecting on a dry summer day and it appears that it is raining inside the sewer line, there is an issue.
GPRS runs the sophisticated Enviro sight rover Inspection Crawler. With six-wheel drive, 12 quick change wheel options, and full pan and tilt 360 -degree inspection camera, the Rover X is the workhorse of inspection robots. In addition to the robotic crawler,GPRS runs a 200’ self-leveling push camera in order to inspect any pipe less than six inches in diameter. GPRS can fully inspect mainlines, laterals, and manholes and each member of the GPRS VPI team is NASSCO certified in Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP), Manhole AssessmentCertification Program (MACP), and Lateral Assessment Certification Program (LACP).
