overview

Support the TECO/Peoples Gas Poly Pipe Program by coordinating utility locating, potholing, sewer inspections, and documentation to enable the safe replacement of aging natural gas infrastructure while minimizing community impact.

PROBLEM

TECO/Peoples Gas was undertaking a large-scale replacement of aging plastic gas mains and service lines across Florida communities. During underground construction, there was a risk of cross bores, where a newly installed utility line intersects an existing sewer line. These incidents can lead to sewer backups, costly repairs, service disruptions, and potential safety hazards for residents and utility crews.

Solution

Working alongside TECO/Peoples Gas, we supported a comprehensive cross bore prevention and infrastructure protection program. The initiative incorporated utility locating, potholing, sewer inspections, quality assurance procedures, and thorough documentation to identify and mitigate underground conflicts before, during, and after construction. Pre- and post-construction cross bore mitigation measures helped protect existing sewer infrastructure, prevent sewer backups, and reduce the risk of utility conflicts. Together, these efforts supported safe installation practices while maintaining project schedules and regulatory compliance.

Benefits

The project enabled TECO/Peoples Gas to modernize critical gas infrastructure while protecting existing underground assets and the communities they serve. By reducing the risk of cross bores, sewer backups, and utility-related incidents, the program improved public safety, enhanced system reliability, and minimized disruptions for residents throughout the construction process.
