Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. – GPRS – of Wisconsin was contacted by a trailer manufacturing plant to locate electrical running through areas inside the plant. The manufacturing plant had hit a large electrical line prior to calling GPRS, LLC. GPRS was able to locate four additional power lines in areas of which they were planning on digging prior to remodeling their new assembly line. After locating these electrical lines, we were able to determine if they did not contact GPRS, LLC. that these lines would have been cut as well.

Using our 400 MHz antenna we were able to see well into the slab and in areas where concrete was previously cut out. Ground penetrating radar is a great tool to scan areas of post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes and can also be used to locate underground utilities prior to digging or excavating. Please contact Ground Penetrating Radar Systems – GPRS to learn how we can assist with your project. To locate rebar, post tension cables, voids, conduits, pipes or utilities in concrete or underground please contact us today by email at chris.geary@gp-radar.com or by phone at 414-795-6845 or 608-250-0650.

Historic Underground Tunnels Located - Milwaukee, WI

Historic Underground Tunnels Located - Milwaukee, WI

When a general contractor in Milwaukee needed to identify the location of a known underground tunnel constructed in the 1880’s for use by nuns and clergy before performing storm sewer upgrades; they contacted GPRS to use Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Marcus Thie, Project Manager for the Wisconsin market was able to locate the underground tunnel, which connected several churches over multiple city blocks, with a GSSI 400 MHz antenna and RD8100 radio detection wand. GPRS was able to mark out the location, extents and approximate depths of the tunnel in various locations throughout the span of the project clearly for the client. Since the data is displayed in real time, the areas were marked easily, and the team could move forward with their process without worry of damaging a Milwaukee historic landmark. GPR is also used to determine the presence of underground utility lines and underground storage tanks in plants, factories, and other occupied spaces because it does not emit harmful radiation, produces virtually no noise or interference, and will not disturb business operations. It can also be used to determine the presence of obstructions in concrete prior to saw cutting or drilling.
