GPRS Provides Locations to Drill in Post-Tension Slabs - Washington DC

A contractor required to drill cores into the ground floor of an occupied post-tension slab requested Ground Penetrating Radar Systems services to promote the safety, timeliness, and design options for their project. The contractor needed to determine potential locations for drains for a room. However, the building engineer adeptly suggested they contact GPRS. Without the knowledge of the locations of the post-tension cables, valuable time, safety, and costs could be affected if the reinforcing is struck during drilling. GPRS scanning assists contractors by reducing the likelihood of subsurface obstruction strikes during drilling, cutting, trenching, anchoring and other sub-surface applications. The investigation determined many cables present in the slab as the ground floor of a med rise complex. The design of the room was also on hold as the contractor understood that the core placements would be dependent upon the reinforcing and conduit placement in the slab.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems using GSSI Sir-3000 with the 1600 MHz antenna can scan Post –Tension decks to provide clients with data on the location of critical reinforcing. This was all done in a safe, time efficient, non-destructive way. The radar emits radiation less than 1% of that found to be emitted by standard cell phones. This means practically no hazardous radiation to operators or persons above or below the work zone. GPRS Project Managers of D.C./Virginia area committed to 24 hour response times if necessary and provide knowledgeable, professional, collaborative experiences to keep your projects on time, safe, and efficient.
