GPRS Locates Underground Utilities in Chandler, AZ
GPRS’s Phoenix office was contacted by an out of state contractor to locate some underground utilities outside of a small mental health facility in Chandler, AZ. The contractor is installing new temp trailers to house some of the office space while the facility goes through a renovation phase. These temp trailers need to have full working utilities for the duration of the project, in order to do so they need to trench new lines to the source at the building. The trenching of the new temp lines will be trenched on the northeast side of the building where all of the incoming utilities enter the existing building. There is a lot of underground utilities along this side of the building that the contractor was concerned with prior to trenching the new underground lines. While scanning this area we were able to locate water, power, gas, sanitary, and some communication lines. We traced all of the power by direct connecting to the above ground electrical equipment and tracing with the electromagnetic pipe locator. The sanitary in this area was located by using a rodder through a sanitary cleanout, and tracing the rodder with the EM locator. The gas was located by direct connecting to the tracer wire and locating it with the EM locator. Basically, all of these utilities were located by using the EM locator and then verifying the approximate depths of each line with GPR. Once all of the lines are located and before trenching the new line in place, we suggest the contractor to pothole each crossing to verify the line and its exact depth to avoid damage.
Along with marking all findings on the ground with either pin flags or paint, GPRS also offers a service of collecting all the findings with a GPS and putting it into a google earth overlay or CAD for future reference. We can typically have the google earth overlay to the customer in three to five business days.
