GPR Used to Locate Reinforcement Prior to Wall Demolition
Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. of Phoenix, AZ. was contacted by a local General Contractor that was preparing to create a new entryway in a warehouse wall in downtown Phoenix. The warehouse manufactures computer components for the government and required GPR with a full written report before any demolition. The contractor on site wanted to see all the reinforcing in the wall to mitigate the amount that would be cut out. I was able to utility mark out all reinforcing and provide approximate depths to our client. It is always ideal to have concrete walls or floors scanned using GPR prior to any cutting or drilling. This wall was precast then delivered to the warehouse and lifted into place.
Ground Penetrating Radar is ideal on a busy construction site as well as a place of occupancy. GPR does not require evacuation of the area as does traditional x-ray concrete imaging. GPR emits no radiation and is completely safe to be around. Traditional x-ray is mostly done after hours; GPR can be done during normal business hours. All data findings are marked directly on the surface at the customer’s request; with GPR there is no wait for developing films as with traditional x-ray. Only one side of the slab is needed for scanning so time and resources are much more ideal for tight schedules of projects. Ground Penetrating Radar is the new way to x-ray!
