Buena Vista Construction GPR Project at
Epcot/Walt Disney World, FL

GPRS, Inc was contacted by Buena Vista Construction Company about locating electrical conduit prior to saw cutting. Their plan was to cut an existing concrete slab to run new electrical conduit to a display. The primary concern of the Buena Vista Construction group was the possibility that existing electrical conduits could be present in the path of the proposed cutting.

Chris Moore is beginning the GPR concrete scanning process.

They contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. and contracted them to come to Japan Village at Epcot and complete the conduit search so they could proceed with the saw cutting. Chris Moore of GPRS was able to comply with the needs of the customer, such as performing the work at 4am, responding at the last minute, and providing a map/drawing of the area after the concrete scanning was complete so no marks would be left on the ground.

Chris is collecting data with the 1.6 GHz antenna, used specifically for concrete scanning.

BVCC was extremely pleased with the service they were provided with. The survey revealed several pieces of reinforcing steel (rebar) and also several conduits running near the proposed trench line. They were able to see exactly how thick the concrete was through the trench line which BVCC believes will be valuable information for their concrete cutting providers. Based on the information Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was able to provide, Buena Vista Construction can now proceed with the original saw cut plan confident they will not destroy any electrical conduits, causing an unexpected shutdown.

The tape was used so no permanent marks would be on the tile in the area that was about to be cut. The tape indicates the location of reinforcing steel and electrical conduit in the slab. The location of the conduits will be transferred to a drawing in order that no electrical will be damaged during the cutting process.

This work was performed by Chris Moore, regional director of the GPRS, Inc. Florida branch. Using Ground Penetrating Radar to detect electrical conduit that is in the path of saw cutting is a common application for our GPR technicians.
