Gound Penetrating Radar Walsh Construction

In January 2007, Walsh Construction hired Ground Penetrating Radar , based on a recommendation from Center Line Electric (Center Line, MI) to assist with a project at a Michigan Data Center. Walsh Construction was faced with was cutting and removing approximately 80,000 square feet of concrete floor. Hundreds of electrical and communications conduits and UPS lines (Uninterruptible Power Source) run through these floors and it is imperative that no services get shut down or damaged during the course of construction.

John Kessinger is the technician from Ground Penetrating Radar responsible for performing this work. Walsh Construction’s electrical superintendent, Dave Pauline, has been GPRS’ primary point of contact on this project and he has been thrilled with the performance of John and GPRS – “When my project demands information as to what is below a concrete slab, I call Ground Penetrating Radar . They respond in a timely manner, usually the next day, working with me to achieve my schedule. The information I receive is accurate, making risk assessments quite simple. I have tested the accuracy through excavation and found that the depths and locations are exactly what were relayed to me. The professionalism of Ground Penetrating Radar System enables me to have them in front of owners/customers for open dialogue. For timely, accurate information I will continue to count on GPRS.

Scanning concrete prior to saw cutting and core drilling to determine the location of electrical concrete is a service that Ground Penetrating Radar System performs on a regular basis. The job described above is an unusually large project. It is not often we are asked to scan 80,000 square feet of concrete that is to be removed. Most of our GPR work for finding electrical conduits is for trenches that are less than 100 feet in length.

Common locations where it is critical that electrical services cannot be shut down include Hospitals, Universities, Retail Centers, Manufacturing Facilities, and Business Centers.
