In October of 2008, the GPRS, Inc. office in New York was contacted by Stony Brook Lightning Rod Company. It appeared that the company needed to place between 18 to 20 lightning rods into the ground around an existing building in Hawthorne, NY.
The company wanted to ensure that they were able to place these rods into the ground without striking any utilities around the building. GPRS New York Regional Director, Jamey Harmon, was able to get to the site that week and utilize our Ground Penetrating Radar equipment to scan all of the companies locations and mark out utilities directly onto the ground. While scanning these holes with the GPR equipment we were able to give depths on the utilities and assist the lightning rod company with safe placement of their rod locations. All of the sites were then rescanned with a Radio Detection Unit to identify if the utility located was telecommunications or electrical.
Stony Brook was then able to convey to the landlord of the property of the findings by GPRS and were approved to continue work without delay. Ground Penetrating Radar has several applications to assist companies with their projects.
