Moontide Condominium
GPR Project
New Smyrna Beach, FL
When Moontide Condominium of New Smyrna Beach, FL needed to anchor several new air conditioning racks on their roof they needed to do so without hitting any of the post tensioned cables and without disturbing the residents of the condo. They contacted GPRS, Inc of Orlando, FL to determine the full scope of work needed. The process involved the installation of 10 different A/C racks and each rack had ten mounting plates. They determined that they would anchor each rack with concrete anchor bolts to a depth of 3 inches. GPRS then explained that they could located all reinforcing steel, rebar and post tension cables, to a depth of 4 inches to insure they would not be cut or hit during the drilling process. A brief GPR demonstration was given and Moontide management was sold on the ground penetrating
radar technology.
On site GPRS was able to locate all of the reinforcing steel in the concrete. This includes rebar and post tensioned cables. The rebar and post tensioned cables were mapped out on the surface and clear places to anchor became evident. GPRS then reviewed the information with the Moontide representative to make sure they understood exactly what was going on before they began the anchoring process. All in all the survey was a success and Moontide was able to drill without concern of hitting any post tensioned cables. This certainly saved them from the costly expense to repair a post tensioned cable had they drilled
and hit one.
Chris Moore runs GPRS operations in the South Eastern United States. He is based in Orlando, FL and he can be reached at (727)420.3292 or by email at chris.moore@gp-radar.com. Concrete scanning and surveying is a common application performed by the GPR
technicians at GPRS.
