GPRS, Inc. New Jersey office was contacted by Hunter Roberts Construction in early October of 2008 about their project at 77 Hudson Street in Jersey City, NJ. They needed to hang a large pipe from the ceiling in the concrete slab structure utilizing a large anchor bolt. They had a concern about the exact location of three 480 electrical lines that ran through the area where the anchors needed to go and wanted to ensure the safety of their workers prior to completing the work. GPRS, Inc.
Regional Director, Jamey Harmon was able to get to the site and scan the ceiling for the electrical lines in the slab. With the use of GPR we were able to identify the conduit in the concrete and trace them out directly onto the ceiling while we were on site. The lines started out in close proximity to each other and then began to spread out to an approximate 4” to 5” spread in the ceiling before existing the path of the proposed hanger locations. With the information provided to Hunter Roberts by GPRS they were able to not only have a precise location on the lines but were able to change the type of hanger they used for the pipe in the area of the conduits to insure they were not hit. With the assistance of GPRS work was able to continue without delay or concern for what was located in the concrete.
Ground Penetrating Radar is the latest and most effective way to locate items in concrete and has the benefit of immediate results. This means the items can be located and marked while the GPR technician is on site to ensure there are no delays in your work schedule. If you need rebar, conduit, or tension cables located prior to cutting or core drilling contact GPRS, Inc.
