CKT Development – GPR Project, Tampa, FL

When CKT Development of Tampa, FL needed to add floor drains in a parking garage without hitting any post tensioned cables they contacted GPRS, Inc of Orlando, FL.  The parking garage floor drains consisted of an 8” out loop to recess it into the floor and a 5” core through the concrete.  The created an obvious concern as the parking garage is reinforced with rebars and post tensioned cables. Thus they contacted the Florida area ground penetrating radar specialists, GPRS.  This is an ideal application for ground penetrating radar as PT Cable and rebar locating are GPR specialties.  GPRS, Inc. from Orlando, FL took the call and mobilized to the site.

On site GPRS was able to identify all post tensioning cables and rebar quickly and accurately.  They marked all of them on the surface with depth indications to the top of the rebar or cable. GPRS then determined, based on the data, the best places to install/drill into the parking garage to avoid striking a cable. The project was a success and radar once again proved its usefulness on concrete for locating rebars and post tensioned cables.

Chris Moore runs GPRS operations in the South Eastern United States.  He is based in Orlando, FL and he can be reached at (727)420.3292 or by email at chris.moore@gp-radar.com. Concrete scanning for the purposes of identifying the location of rebar and post-tensioning is the most frequent service performed by the GPR technicians at GPRS.

Once the pattern is on the ground Chris is able to safely plot a location for the core drillers.
