During soil testing at a GM Stamping Plant in Pittsburgh,
PA, Arcadis drilled through an electrical conduit that they
were not aware of. They then called GPRS, Inc. to locate
conduits prior to drilling all of the remaining soil testing
locations. GPRS, Inc. was able to mobilize the evening that
they were called in order to accommodate the urgent schedule. Ground penetrating radar was able to locate the conduits embedded in and below the concrete slab on grade. GPRS, Inc. also used an RD-4000 utility locating device to double-check the areas for live power and communications signals.
Matthew Swensson from Arcadis had this to say regarding
the project:
“We contacted GPRS to provide emergency utility location services during a recent environmental investigation at an
auto parts manufacturing plant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The discovery of several sub-surface electrical conduits en-
cased in a concrete pad beneath the plant yard had resulted
in a safety stand-down of drilling operations until this potential hazard could be addressed. GPRS mobilized to the Site follow-ing day, and worked late into the night to complete the utility survey as quickly as possible. Thanks to their responsiveness and hard work, we were able to quickly obtain the information necessary to protect our personnel from a potentially serious safety hazard, minimizing costly project down-time. I will definitely use GPRS again on future projects, and would recommend them to anybody in need of utility locating services.”
