Underground Utility Locating for Soil Boring - Miami International Airport

GPRS was contacted by an environmental company to mobilize to locate underground utilities. The company had two soil boring locations and were very concerned considering the critical nature of the facility and importance of protecting fiber optic communication lines and power lines. It is very typical for critical locations such as an airport, oil refinery, or power plant to require all contractors to use GPR before any digging or drilling on site. For this reason, they called Ground Penetrating Radar Systems.

Underground Utility Locating for Soil Boring - Miami International Airport

GPRS, Inc. is often called to mobilize to a project to locate underground utilities. Ground penetrating radar is an extremely accurate and effective way of locating the impediments in the ground. GPRS has found its accuracy to be +/- 6” when marking the center of the pipe and +/-10% when determine the depth of the object. The process is normally very quick and field markings are placed in real time.

With this in mind, GPRS completed the utility locating process in Miami, FL marking all utilities discovered and explaining the findings to on-site representative. The environmental company was then able to continue with its excavation schedule with more confidence and an understanding of what hazards lay in their path. On site we were able to scan both locations in only a few hours

The picture below shows Jordan James, GPRS regional manager of the New Orleans area, surveying the area in question.
