Underground Utility Locate at Ravinia Festival
in Highland Park, Illinois

Underground Utility Locate

Each summer, the Ravinia Festival offers a series of open-air concerts at their beautiful fairgrounds in the north suburbs of Chicago. Several additional speaker poles are to be installed in several areas around the perimeter of the picnic grounds to improve the concert experience in outlying areas. Several of these poles were to be installed near known underground utilities, and a preliminary check of the utility drawings revealed at least one discrepancy with the placement of a storm sewer. Ravinia facilities management decided to have a private utility locate performed to ensure that no significant underground utilities would be damaged.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was called to locate underground utilities in areas where the new speaker poles would be placed. GPRS performed a GPR survey of these areas, traced the paths of utility lines, and marked the locations of the utilities in the field. The paths of several utilities were found to deviate from what was indicated on the drawings, and the speaker pole placements were adjusted accordingly. Prior to auguring holes or excavating in areas which contain underground utilities, contact GPRS to have the utilities located.
