Underground Utility Detection at the Holland Tunnel
GPRS was called to help locate any conduits running in the path of their proposed trenching locations. The port authority was upgrading their security at the Holland Tunnel toll plaza. The contractor was only trenching 6” into the concrete. We used the SIR-3000 with the 1600MHz antenna which magnifies the signal up to 18” into the concrete surface. We were able to give the depth of the reinforcing steel and conduits in the concrete and mark directly on the surface in real time prior to the trenching. Not only is it a safe non destructive way to locate the conduits but it saves them money if they were to hit the conduit and have to repair.
