ARCADIS was performing an environmental site evaluation at a location in Tampa, FL that had previously been a car dealership and was currently still an active auto repair shop. The process of their evaluation required that they take soil borings from multiple locations throughout the premises, which meant that they would need to verify that they would not be drilling through any existing utilities. Additionally, they needed to know if there were any underground storage tanks (USTs) on site that had not been removed. They contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to perform both of these tasks.
Jim James and Chris Moore of GPRS mobilized to the site and proceeded to map out existing utilities in concrete slab-on-grade applications in the repair shop floors, asphalt locations in the surrounding parking lot, and also in gravel locations at the parking lot edges. GPRS mapped the utilities on the surface with spray paint, so that the borings could be completed without concern. Additionally, GPRS scanned multiple locations looking for any USTs that may have been abandoned in place. Chris Moore of GPRS was able to locate an underground tank and the associated piping. Once again this data was mapped on the surface with spray paint so that ARCADIS, could include this in the evaluation and reporting. Overall, the project was a success. Below are pictures of Jim scanning an area of the parking lot where a depression had been observed. ARCADIS pointed this out as an area of interest as they thought there was potential the depression could be the result of an abandoned UST that had collapsed. Jim was able to verify that there were not USTs within the area. If you are interested in obtaining more information or a quote please visit our “Contact Us” page for a local representative near you.
