NASA JSC has many building located on site. On one of the standard checks of the building they went to the roof top and saw that the some exposed concrete columns were fraying near the top. Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc immeditatly contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems Inc of Houston, Texas to locate where the reinforcing rods were placed. The concern was that the reinforcing rungs where not placed correctly at the top of the column. They knew that these areas needed to be scanned using ground penetrating radar as it is a working office building where they could not shut down to take X-Ray photos. Due to this fact they contacted the specialists, GPRS. This is an ideal application for ground penetrating radar as rebar locating is one of the GPR specialties. Using the GPR we can do large areas of work quickly and accurately without needing to develop any film. GPRS, Inc. from Houston, TX took the call and has mobilized to the site.
Glenn Zebrowski runs GPRS operations in the Houston and Corpus Christi, Texas. He can be reached at (281) 728-7025 or (361) 424-2258 or by email at glenn.zebrowski@gp-radar.com. Concrete scanning for the purposes of identifying the location of rebar and post-tensioning is the most frequent service performed by the GPR technicians at GPRS.
