Rebar Locating at Campus of
The University of Texas in Austin

Victoria Air Conditioning is taking part in a remodel project on the campus of The University of Texas in Austin. The project required multiple cores to be done through the floor; however, UT specified that no rebar and conduits were to be cored through. Karla Kiefel of Victoria Air Conditioning, contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. Austin, Texas to make sure all rebar were missed during coring.

GPRS of Austin, Texas mobilized to the site and were able to map out the location of the rebar and conduits within the concrete floor. All coring locations were scanned using GSSI Ground Penetrating Radar equipment. Located on the floor below where the scanning was to take place is a dormitory full of students that could not have been evacuated if concrete x-ray was used. The radiation that concrete x-ray emits would have created a need to move students to another location, interrupting everyday business. GPR does not emit any radiation and therefore was ideal for the rebar investigation.
