Charles Perry Construction was performing a renovation of Larsen Hall on the University of Florida campus. During the renovation it was determined that they would need to saw-cut through the concrete, slab-on-grade floor. They knew that there was potential for conduits and other utilities to be running both through and under the floor and were concerned about both cost of repair and safety if one of these utilities were to be cut. As a company that had utilitzed GPRS’s services in the past, Charles Perry Construction knew that the GPRS technicians and the ground penetrating radar technology could alleviate both concerns.
GPRS mobilized to the site and proceeded to map out existing utilities in four different locations throughout the building, and advise on which ones seemed to be live electrical conduits. Overall, the project was a success. Below are pictures of the locations within the building that were scanned. The black lines represent utilities underneath or within the concrete. Additionally, you can see that the depth of the utility has been annotated as well as whether or not the utility appears to be a live conduit.
