The Post-tension cables are marked directly on the slab with depth indications to assist in finding a clear area to core drill. |
When Coral Reef Plumbing needed to drill penetrations through an elevated slab with post tensioned cables, they called upon GPRS Inc. for assistance. The area that needed to scanned, using ground penetrating radar, was located inside the Master bathroom of the town house. This is an ideal application for ground penetrating radar as PT Cable and rebar locating are GPR specialties. GPRS, Inc. from Miami, FL took the call and mobilized to the site.
On site GPRS was able to identify post tensioning cables and rebar quickly and accurately. They marked them on the surface with depth indications to the top of there bar or cable. GPRS then collaborated with Amaury Tirse, of Coral Reef Plumbing Inc., as to the best places to core drill to avoid striking a cable. The project was a success and why radar is “The New Way to X-Ray”.
Ron Anderson runs GPRS operations in the South Florida. He is based in Miami, FL and he can be reached at (305) 801-4138 or by email at ron.anderson@gp-radar.com. Concrete scanning for the purposes of identifying the location of rebar and post-tensioning is the most frequent service performed by the GPR technicians at GPRS.
