Eau Gallie Electrical was contracted by the Melbourne International Airport to be the electrical contractor for the TSA security checkpoint renovation project. The project entails installing new X-Ray machines as well as full body scanners to the check point. In order to install the new pieces of equipment Eau Gallie would have to saw cut the floor in several locations to install new electrical conduit and electrical floor boxes. As there is only one TSA check point at the airport it was imperative that now live electrical conduits were struck or damaged during the cutting process as equipment shutdown could devastating to the passenger traffic moving through the airport. In order to ensure that nothing was hit/struck during the cutting process Eau Gallie contracted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems out of Orlando, FL. Ground penetrating radar is used frequently around Florida for the specific purpose of mapping electrical conduits and other utilities prior to saw cutting a concrete slab-on-grade situation.
Once on site Ground Penetrating Radar Systems scanned multiple areas and mapped conduits (as seen in the picture below) allowing Eau Gallie to confidently cut the concrete and install the needed electrical equipment. Additionally, because there are no harmful side effects to using ground penetrating radar the TSA check point remained open and operational. The project was a success and Eau Gallie was able to finish the project without incedent.
