The city of Palm Beach needed to locate the tieback’s, anchor wall and locate underground utilities along the road on Ocean Blvd. The area that needed to be surveyed, using ground penetrating radar, was located in front of the beachfront homes on South Ocean Blvd. Thus they contacted the specialists in subsurface structure and utility locating, GPRS. This is an ideal application for ground penetrating radar as void locating underground anomalies are GPR specialties. GPRS, Inc. in South Florida took the call and mobilized to the site.

On site, GPRS was able to identify the underground utilities and layout the tiebacks, quickly and accurately. They marked them on the surface of the ground and provided a report explaining the results. GPRS then collaborated with the Town of Palm Beach, as to the depth and location of the obstructions. The advantage to radar compared to X-Ray is that radar can locate the underground obstructions or voids from the surface of the ground, without dangerous radiation. The project was a success and why radar is “The New Way to X-Ray”.
Ron Anderson runs GPRS operations in the South Florida area. He can be reached at
