A parking structure in downtown Detroit Michigan has been experiencing water backup on their concrete slab after each rainfall. Management decided that new floor drains needed to be placed at several locations where the standing water was at its worst.
GPRS was asked to come in and perform radar scanning of the deck to map out the post-tensioning in the areas of the new floor drains. The contractors hired to drill the holes decided that an 8-inch penetration was needed to sleeve in the new floor drains. The radar scans performed on the job found the post-tensioning to be almost 30 inches apart in the areas that were tested. Identifying the post-tensioning was the most critical aspect on the job. Drilling through a post-tension cable can cause serious damage to not only the building structure but could also cause serious harm to workers.
