Yovaish Construction had recently completed a tenant build out for Tetra Tech on the 10th floor of the PNC Building located in downtown Orlando, FL. In finishing the build out Yovaish was asked to install two electrical/data floor boxes beneath conference room tables. This would allow hidden connectivity for the conference room. In order to install the floor boxes they needed to drill two holes through the elevated concrete slab. They wanted to be sure they didn’t hit any electrical conduit in the concrete and therefore they contact Ground Penetrating Radar Systems. Ground penetrating radar is often used to determine the location of reinforcing steel (i.e. post tension cables, rebar, wire mesh) and other objects (i.e. electrical conduits) in the concrete prior to core drilling. It is a simple surveying process that can save from hitting one of these objects and causing structural damage or power shut downs.
Chris Moore with GPRS mobilized to the site after hours to complete the quick survey. In total Chris was on site for 1 hour. During this time he was able to determine the reinforcing steel presence and location of electrical conduits prior to drilling. The holes were drilled without incident and Yovaish was pleased with the outcome. Ground penetrating radar surveys are a quick and easy way to protect you from costly repairs and provide a high level of customer service.
