Locate Utilities at Northwestern University in Illinois

Working in conjunction with an environmental firm a GPR survey was conducted at Northwestern University. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems (GPRS) was there to conduct the GPR survey to locate any utilities that may be in the way of soil borings. The borings were being done since several underground storage tanks had been removed. The reason GPR surveys are used on areas like this is to locate any hazards that may slow down, add expense or halt construction altogether. It is easy to plan when unknowns like foundations, obstructions and utilities are
mapped out.

GPRS of Chicago was able to conduct the scan and locate possible utilities that could have posed problems later. These utilities were marked on the ground and; this information was then relayed to the environmental firm so they could proceed.

Locating utilities around soil boring and underground storage tanks (UST’S) is a common application for GPRS technicians. If you have any questions regarding the use of Ground Penetrating Radar for concrete scanning or underground imaging on your job site in Illinois or Northwest Indiana, please contact John Lause at 312-485-7725 or john.lause@gp-radar.com.
