GPRS were brought to center city Philly to aid in the process of an eight-story expansion of a five story building. The luxury apartments are to sit right on Market St. in the center of it all. Before the owner forwards his ambitious dream though, he must ensure his quasi sky scraper meets the standards of its big brothers and sisters standing tall next to him. Our part as ground radar professionals was to locate the rebar patterns in the fifth floor concrete columns before metal support plates were installed. These plates, bolted to 12 columns, would support the the new floors above. Our locating would significantly reduce the risk of jeopardizing the integrity of the building. Once located, the bolt plates would be exactly in the right location
between the rebar.
The pictures shown are from two different locations scanned on the columns. One is from six feet down from the ceiling on the vertical section of the column while the other is a 3x3 ft section cut out on the roof where the column ends. Floor scans were made here to look into the top of its design. A lot of time has been spent on this project, and more time is expected to guarantee a safe addition. Rebar locating is one of our most precise applications due to the capabilities of our equipment in this arena as well as our extensive training in locating such reinforcement.
