Ground Radar Deep Sub-Surface 270 MHZ Antenna Sinkhole Imaging in Philadelphia

Sinkhole Imaging in PhiladelphiaBethlehem, Pa - At a medical facility in Bethlehem, Pa, sinkholes had begun to appear in outdoor storage locations just outside the facility. The asphalt in one particular location had collapsed, forcing the decision makers at the facility to take fast action to avoid further damage. Before the job started, multiple avenues were investigated before finding the best solution to put an end to this problem. The voids were suspected to be up to approximately 8 - 10 ft deep. Normally for GPRS, identifying voids is an everyday task; however, the capabilities of the standard 400 MHz antenna could not meet the needs of this issue. Fortunately, GSSI does have a 270 MHz antenna that collects data up to 12 ft, rather than the 8 ft limitations of the 400 MHz. The 270 MHz was shipped in and put to work.

After several hours of investigation, the 270 MHz identified multiple void locations between 5 and 8.5 ft in depth. There were marked and labeled on the surface, so the facility could properly bore and grout those locations to continue safe storage on the property. In the picture attached, the 270 MHz is connected by an adapter to our 400 MHz cart for easy data collection.
