GPRS Uses Ground Penetrating
Radar to Determine Asphalt Thickness

Mitch Ross of Ground Penetrating Radar Systems in Charlotte, North Carolina was recently requested to perform a unique operation; locating the thickness of asphalt over a large parking lot. Using a high frequency GPR antenna and a GSSI SIR-3000, he was able to accurately map and record the asphalt thickness over the entire parking lot, giving the customer 2-4 measurements per square foot. Since the parking lot had already had test cores taken, GPRS was able to verify the accuracy of the GPR measurements and found that they were accurate to within ¼”.

Determine Asphalt Thickness

The data collection portion took only 1 day on site and the data processing took only a few hours. If you are asking “How do I find asphalt thickness?”, or concrete thickness, over a large area, call Mitch Ross at 704.501.7089, or mitch.ross@gp-radar.com
