Allegiance Development was contacted by the Sailwinds Multi-Condo building with an interesting situation. The fire main that fed the large building had recently broken and created a large hole near the corner of two of the buildings. They contacted Allegiance to contract their services to repair any damages caused by this break. This contract included pumping flowable fill or concrete in the void cavities created below the concrete in each of the two buildings affected. Allegiance wanted to ensure that they knew precisely where the voids were located before the pumping process started. Additionally, they need to provide a follow-up report proving to the county and city that they had repaired the problem. They turned to Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. to provide this information. Ground penetrating radar is often used to determine the presence and location of voids below concrete and therefore this was a perfect fit for the technology.

Allegiance contracted with GPRS of Tampa, FL to mobilize to the site and perform the survey. Once on site the survey took roughly four hours to complete. In that time GPR was able to locate the extremity of the void and plot it directly on the surface. GPRS also saved the radar data and took pictures and measurements for reporting purposes. The survey was very successful and Allegiance was pleased with the outcome. Repairs are currently underway and the second mobilization will be scheduled shortly to prove that the problems were remedied.
