GPRS Locates Post Tensioning Cables
in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Post Tensioning Cables

Area of concern at the main air-handler of The Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts needed to drill penetrations through an elevated slab with post tensioned cables.  The area that needed to scanned, using ground penetrating radar,  was located inside the main air-handler. Thus they contacted specialists, GPRS. This is an ideal application for ground penetrating radar as PT Cable and rebar locating are GPR specialties. GPRS, Inc. from Miami, FL took the call and mobilized to the site.

On site GPRS was able to identify post tensioning cables and rebar quickly and accurately. They marked them on the surface with depth indications to the top of the rebar or cable. GPRS then collaborated with Rusty, the building engineer, as to the best places to core drill to avoid striking a cable. The project was a success and why radar is “The New Way To X-Ray”.

Ron Anderson runs GPRS operations in the South Florida. He is based in Miami, FL and he can be reached at (305) 801-4138 or by email at ron.anderson@gp-radar.com. Concrete scanning for the purposes of identifying the location of rebar and post-tensioning is the most frequent service performed by the GPR technicians at GPRS.
