GPRS clearly marked all
obstructions directly on the slab. |
A contractor needed to drill penetrations through an elevated slab with wire mesh, beams below the slab and embedded electrical conduits to install bollard posts. The area that needed to be scanned, using ground penetrating radar, was located inside the parking garage on the 4th floor. Thus they contacted specialists in concrete scanning, GPRS. This is an ideal application for ground penetrating radar as conduit structural steel and beam locating are GPR specialties. GPRS, Inc. in South Florida took the call and mobilized to the site.
On site, GPRS was able to identify all the obstructions quickly and accurately. They marked them on the surface of the slab indicating beams or conduits. GPRS then collaborated with the contractor, as to the best places to drill to avoid striking a conduit or beam. The project was a success and why radar is “The New Way to X-Ray”.
Ron Anderson runs GPRS operations in the South Florida area. He can be reached at (305) 801-4138 or by email at ron.anderson@gp-radar.com. Concrete scanning for the purposes of identifying the location of wire mesh, beams and electrical conduits is a very frequent service performed by the GPR technicians at GPRS Inc.
