Power Air Conditioning, Inc. recently contacted GPRS to assist with a project they had going on at The Pierre Condos in Sarasota, FL. There project involved the installation of four heavy duty air conditioning units on the roof of the high-rise condo building. The installation of these air conditioning units required anchors to be drilled into the concrete roof of the building. Power Air Conditioning knew that this was a building that contained post-tension cables and had actually previously utilized GPRS at this site to locate PT cables prior to core-drilling. Power Air Conditioning required a tight schedule to be kept as they were renting a crane in order to lift the units up to the roof and needed quick and efficient concrete imaging services. From previous experience they knew that ground penetrating radar was the best answer for their situation as GPRS representatives process the data in real-time, right on the spot, and do not require the other crews, such as the roofers or ac unit installers, to evacuate the area as, unlike x-ray, there is no radiation. They called GPRS and Jim James and Jordan James, the Tampa, FL and New Orleans, LA representatives respectively, mobilized to the site.
The focus of the survey was to locate all PT cables, rebar, conduit, and any other utilities that may be in the concrete at the four ac unit locations. Jim and Jordan quickly worked to map out all of the above listed anomalies on the surface as it was important to Power Air Conditioning’s schedule that they stayed ahead of the crane. When it was all completed Power Air Conditioning was able to safely anchor all locations without striking any supporting steel in the concrete. The picture shows Jim checking his markings on the rooftop.
