JKL Design Group had a project in the Sarasota, FL at the Villa Merada Condominiums that involved a remodel of one of the units. Part of this remodel involved core drilling for the routing of plumbing lines vertically between floors in four different locations. Ervin Wuest was the contractor performing the work and he was concerned about the potential for post-tension cables to be running through the floors and he decided to contact Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to see what type of locating service they could provide. GPRS quickly informed him that with their technology it should not be difficult to locate any potential utilities running through either the slabs. GPRS’s Tampa, FL representative, Jim James, mobilized to the site within days of the call and performed the concrete imaging using ground penetrating radar to ensure that all supporting steel and conduits were not struck during the drilling process.
GPRS was able to complete the survey quickly and provide safe locations to complete the drilling. In addition to locating post tension cable and rebar, GPRS also located a conduit run that was running directly through two of the proposed drilling locations. Ervin Wuest was then able to work with JKL to redesign the layout of the bathroom so that the core drillings could be performed safely.
