Conduit Locating at the Sea Haven Condos
in Pompano Beach, Florida

Conduit LocatingGPRS was contact by ABC Concrete Cutting, Inc. of South Florida to mobilize to a project where prior concrete saw cutting had taken place.  The general contractor on the project had hired ABC to cut a small trench in a bathroom floor.  The trench was going to be used to install new plumbing and sanitary lines.  Within the first few cuts ABC Concrete Cutting hit two large conduits.  No one on the property or construction teams knew the conduits were below the slab.  Fortunately no one was injured during this process.

In order to continue cutting the contractor needed to have some way of identifying if there were more conduits in the concrete.  ABC Concrete Cutting referred Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc.  GPRS specializes in locating electrical conduits and other types of utilities below concrete slab-on-grade.  GPRS mobilized to the site and using their 1600MHz antenna surveyed the trench line marking several additional electrical conduits.  The contractor was surprised there were that many conduits in the floor and was thankful that GPRS was able to
locate them.

Ground penetrating radar is often used for this type of work.  GPR is not hazardous to occupant / tenant health and is extremely accurate.  GPR can also provide a depth to the top of the conduit discovered to ensure that the saw blade passes directly over the conduits, without damaging it.

The pictures show the field markings after all of the conduits were located.  You will notice paint indicating the location of the conduits and utilities found.
