Concrete Survey
In Durham, North Carolina

Concrete SurveyIn November of 2011, Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was contracted by CRS Renovations to survey a concrete slab on grade. The project was at the Wyndham Hotel in Durham, North Carolina. The purpose of the scanning was to locate electrical conduit in the slab prior to saw cutting for trenches. Also, to locate sewer pipes beneath the concrete to tie in some plumbing lines. Most of the findings that were below slab, deeper than 2 feet, were located the RD7000 which detects power and current in the pipes that were active and live.

The GPR scanning was a success. The contractor was able to saw cut around the conduits that were found in the concrete and sewer pipes were tied into without any problems. There were 2 main conduits that fed the building with power that were laid into the concrete at the time of the pour. These conduits were found by Nate Stair, a GPRS technician. He was able to mark the exact location along with depths clearly visible for the contractor to see. These two lines were thought to be around 2 feet under the slab but GPRS found them in the slab just 3 inches deep. The saw cutters would have sawed right through the lines if not for using the technology of Ground Penetrating Radar.
