Reinforced Structures, Inc. (RSI) in conjunction with Brandon Construction had a project going across the street from Clearwater Beach in Florida. The scope of the project was the construction of a new hotel overlooking the beach. RSI needed to install some brackets onto the top the columns that had already been constructed and they, along with the engineer for the project, were concerned that the installation of the anchors for these brackets could compromise the structural steel within the column. RSI decided to contact Jim James with Ground Penetrating Radar Systems (GPRS) to see what type of locating service they could provide. GPRS quickly informed them that with their technology it should not be difficult to locate and map any rebar in the columns. GPRS mobilized to the site and used ground penetrating radar to perform the concrete imaging in a half day.

When the survey was complete, RSI was able to easily see the rebar locations on each column with markings directly on the surface. RSI was then able to safely drill the anchor locations without fear of compromising the column’s rebar cage.
